Sırakaya stated that, following the resolution of the longstanding Somaliland crisis between Ethiopia and Somalia under Türkiye’s leadership, they would initiate diplomatic engagements with the ruling parties of both states.

Recalling that the conflict was resolved through the Ethiopia-Somalia Ankara Declaration, signed in Ankara, under the auspices of His Excellency President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Sırakaya provided his insights on the first diplomatic engagements following the agreement in an interview with the Anadolu Agency (AA).

Emphasising that Türkiye has recently taken on a more prominent role in resolving regional conflicts, Sırakaya stated, “I would like to stress the great significance of the grain agreement signed in Istanbul between Ukraine and Russia. Subsequently, with the Ankara Agreement between Ethiopia and Somalia, positive steps were taken towards resolving a regional dispute.”

“Türkiye is addressing issues that the UN is finding difficult to resolve”

Sırakaya stated that Türkiye had expressed its willingness to support efforts to resolve the ongoing disputes between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
He emphasised, “When we look at the situation today, we see that the United Nations and the international community have fallen short in addressing and resolving issues that fall under their responsibility. In such cases, Türkiye steps in as a mediator through its entrepreneurial and humanitarian diplomacy, engaging with all parties.”

Providing information on an upcoming agreement, Sırakaya announced that the AK Party Headquarters would host a delegation from Somalia’s ruling party for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
He continued: “We will sign this agreement, which aims to deepen relations between political parties, and the very next day, we will sign a similar agreement with the ruling party in Ethiopia. As official guests of Ethiopia’s ruling party, we will attend their congress and, through the signing of the MoU, finalise the process of cooperation with both parties involved in the Ankara Agreement.”
Sırakaya stressed that only a stable Somalia and a stable Ethiopia could bring lasting benefits to the African continent and to the Horn of Africa.

He further noted: “In a region where both the United States and France continue to have military bases, Türkiye has positioned itself as a sought-after and highly regarded nation, not only in Africa but across various parts of the world, through its entrepreneurial and humanitarian foreign policy and its role as a representative of justice and compassion. Naturally, we take great pride in this. Türkiye remains committed to fulfilling its responsibilities, not just regionally but also in ensuring global peace, and will continue to do so in the coming period.”
